This gray granite statue portrays Ramesses the Second as a child kneeling under the protection of Horus, the falcon god of the horizon.
The face of the bird is made out of limestone after it had been broken in ancient times. The statue depicts the ancient Egyptian name of the king in question, "Ra mes sw." The sun disk represents "Ra," the figure of the child stands for "mes," while the plant held by the king symbolizes "sw."
Therefore, the three elements of the statue display the whole name of the king. |
