In the tomb of Tutankhamun, many boomerangs were found in boxes in the antechamber or on the floor of the annex. It was supposed that the deceased would hunt evil spirits, portrayed as birds, in the hereafter.
Most of the boomerangs are made of wood with incised decorations; some of them were gilded or capped with faience.
In general, their lengths varied from 26 to 64 centimeters, or 10 to 25 inches, and their weights varied from 50 to 260 grams, or 2 to 9 ounces. |
