The fragments were originally in a palace chamber with aquatic scenes. The two panels are bordered with a frieze, or ornamented band, of rosettes.
The painting shows luxuriously growing tufts of papyrus and other plants with long leaves, dotted with blue flowers, among which wild geese are flying. The painting is freely executed without guidelines and was applied to a dry surface.
The combination of colors gave a bright and many shaded effect. The colors used in the painting are natural Ancient Egyptian tempera colors. Tempera is a painting medium in which pigment is mixed with water-soluble glutinous materials, such as egg yolk. |
