Atum is the creator sun god and the principal divinity of the Heliopolitan Ennead, or group of nine deities. The name Atum means the complete, the perfect one.

Referred to as Lord of Heliopolis, he was associated with Re to become Re-Atum. He was often depicted as a man wearing a double crown and holding the "Was" scepter.

A number of creatures were sacred to Atum including the lion, the bull, the lizard, and the ichneumon, or mongoose.
