The scale weight is engraved in Kufi calligraphy, an ornamental style of writing, that gives the name of "Al-Qasim Ibn 'Ubaid Allah 'Aydi Muslim Ibn Al-'Arraf(Al-qāsim Ibn ̉abaίd Allah ̉aydi Muslim Ibn Al-̉arāf)" and the date of 117 after Hijra (AD 735). It was used to weigh an amount of approximately 500 grams.

Scale weights of this type were used in markets for weighing meat, fruits, and vegetables and were controlled by the state inspector of weights and measures. It is likely that the scale weight was sealed with the name of the police commander.
