Ptolemy the Third ruled Egypt from 246 to 222 BC. The head is slightly inclined to the left, and the forehead is creased.
It was well known that Ptolemy the Third was strongly attached to the ancient library of Alexandria and did his best to sustain the intellectual and scientific position of Alexandria in order to make it the capital of the Hellenistic world.
He provided the ancient library, which was situated in the royal district, with the original manuscripts of the works of great and famous Greek authors. |
