The northwestern part of the Great Court of Ramesses the Second contains the triple shrine, or bark-station, of the Theban Triad, which includes the three deities Amun-Re, Mut, and Khonsu.
The shrine housed the wooden bark, or small ship, that contained the Theban Triad's statues. The shrine was first built at the time of Queen Hatshepsut and King Tuthmosis the Third, then rebuilt at the time of King Ramesses the Second. It is flanked by four graceful clustered papyrus granite columns. |
