The statue depicts a farmer, carrying on his back some goods to sell in the city market. He is portrayed as if he is walking hastily.

The head is missing, but the statue's trunk is sculpted in an extremely accurate and realistic manner.

The trunk and strong muscles are shown in proportion with one another.
The farmer wears the short pleated exomis, a Greek garment worn by men engaged in strenuous activity. All these artistic features express the realistic style of Alexandrian art.
