Upon taking the throne in 819 after Hijra (AD 1416) Sultan Al-Muayyad Sheikh appointed Prince Al-Qadi Abdel Basit as head of the treasury. He remained in this post for many years and grew very wealthy.
During the reign of Sultan Al-Ashraf Barsbay, he was given the additional posts of head of the army and the ustadar. He studied Hadith under Ibn Al-Gizri Al-Burhani Al-Halabi. He attained a high position during the reign of Barsbay.
Al-Aziz Youssef Ibn al-Sultan used to go to Prince Abdel Basit's home to check on the ships going to Rosetta. Abdel Basit had two main enemies, Amir Gawhar Al-Qanqaba'I and Ganibek, and because of this he had many problems. |
