Monuments of all materials were discovered under the water of Alexandria's Eastern Harbor. The damaging effect of the seawater is seen clearly on many monuments.

This head of a woman, probably the wife of an emperor, was one of the objects eroded by the seawater. Some details of the hair are still visible, but the features are now just an effaced silhouette.
