Oil Lamp of Copper

Listen ‫IBM Text-to-speech

This oil lamp is made of copper. It has a movable lid and a handle that looks like a cross inside a crescent. The base is supported by a post ornamented with rosary beads.

The post is carried by three horses rearing on their hind legs; their heads come together beneath the post and their forelegs are raised to support it. The crescent, together with the cross, has a symbolic significance used in modern times as an allegory of national unity.

Another significance is that the crescent symbolizes woman and here represents the Holy Virgin. The cross symbolizes the Lord Jesus Christ.
