The Giza Plateau

A pyramid complex, such as the one at Giza, was built as a state project for the burial of the king. The god, the king, and the people were all united to gain eternal life in the construction effort.

The Architectural Elements of a Pyramid Complex

A pyramid was usually built within a complete funerary complex, which contained an enclosure wall, valley temple, causeway, mortuary temple, boat pits, and pyramid or royal tomb.

Sphinxes

A sphinx is a statue of a lion with a human face or the head of a ram, falcon, or jackal.
